what people say
Clients are the best people to explain what it was like for them to work with me. Here’s what a few of them say.
Staying Cool Serviced Apartments
“We like to think of James as our digital guru… a quality person who helps the company do what it needs to do.”
Staying Cool operate hip serviced apartments in Manchester, Birmingham, Barcelona and Plymouth. I started working with them in 2007 when their company had outgrown their original website, which worked well for two apartments, but was struggling to cope with 14, as they had by then.
I did a thorough audit of their website and its performance in search engines, both the organic results and the sponsored links. I also looked at the usability of the site and how well it performed against web accessibility guidelines.
Having overhauled their Google AdWords campaign to make it more efficient and get a better return-on-investment, I helped them plan their new site, building in good search engine optimisation to the structure and content. As a result, they now rank on page one of Google for all their major search terms and have seen a 400% increase in traffic from organic search as a result.
I recently ran a social media workshop with the directors and head of marketing, which has lead to them developing a presence on Facebook and Twitter. We also uploaded all of the company’s library of fantastic images to Flickr and have started adding information about where they source all of their furniture.
Tony Winfield, Grove Road Primary School
“He’s a great listener. In fact, he should have been a teacher.”
Schools are strongly encouraged by local authorities to have a website, but usually have little or no experience of how to develop a site, or what to say on it. They are often fairly pretty badly built, have confusing navigation and don’t convey an accurate image of the school. Tony, the head of Grove Road Primary School was adamant that he wanted a website he could be proud of, that would attract new parents and pupils to the school.
After spending a long time discussing the school, its character and what information prospective parents would want to know, I developed a structure and design for the site. It delivers quickly the main points about Grove Road that make it (in Ofsted’s words) such an outstanding school. According to Tony, parents always comment that it’s a great site, and is really easy to find out everything they need to know about the school.
Caitlin Allen, Acupuncturist
“I sometimes think James knows more about my business than I do.”
Caitlin runs a busy acupuncture clinic in Leeds, offering general acupuncture but specialising in fertility. When I started working with her, she was spending a lot of time and money advertising via flyers in shops, and adverts in the Yellow Pages and Yell.com, neither of which were bringing in much business.
I helped Caitlin to plan the content of her new site, thinking carefully about the messages that woud appeal to propsective patients and providing the information that they were likely to need when choosing an acupuncturist. We promoted the site using Google AdWords, and saw an immediate increase in traffic and business. Clicks were costing around 15p each – way below what Yellow Pages were charging, so Caitlin soon cancelled her listing with them.
Since then, we have improved Caitlin’s ranking in the organic search so much that she frequently has to turn new patients away.
